Women Empowerment Campaigns
Empowering women starts with knowledge—and one of the most powerful tools we can give them is financial literacy.
Many women in low-income communities handle household finances but lack access to formal banking, saving schemes, or investment knowledge. They earn, they budget, but they rarely get a chance to grow or secure their money. Nirmala Foundation is working to change that.
In October 2023, we took a bold step toward this vision by organizing a Financial Literacy & Investment Awareness workshop in Old Mustafabad, Delhi—one of the most underserved areas in the city.
Financial Literacy & Investment Awareness – Old Mustafabad, October 2023
Held in a community hall surrounded by narrow lanes and dense housing, this session brought together over 60 women, most of whom had never been inside a bank or understood how interest, savings, or UPI payments work.
The workshop was designed in simple Hindi and focused on real-life examples that the women could relate to.
Key Highlights:
- Introduction to basic financial terms (bank account, interest, savings, loans, insurance)
- Explained how to open and use a savings account
- Awareness about government schemes for women (Sukanya Samriddhi, PM Jan Dhan Yojana, etc.)
- Sessions on safe digital payments (UPI, mobile wallets, fraud awareness)
- Investment basics like recurring deposits, PPF, and gold saving plans

- Encouraged group saving practices (chit funds, self-help groups) among attendees
- One-on-one Q&A for personal financial doubts
- Distribution of printed handouts in Hindi for future reference
Many women said it was the first time they felt confident about making decisions for their own savings and future.
Why This Matters
Women in low-income families often sacrifice their own needs for their children, their homes, or their husbands. But when you give a woman the power to understand and manage money, you give her control, confidence, and a sense of security.
Yet, even today:
- Most poor women have no bank account or digital payment access
- They fall prey to fraud or loan traps due to lack of awareness
- They have zero investment knowledge or future financial planning
- Many fear asking questions because they’ve never been taught these basics
This one session made a big difference—but thousands of women are still waiting to learn what money can really do for them.
Help Us Empower More Women
We want to take this workshop to more slums, villages, and backward communities—but we need your support.
Here’s how you can help:
- 💰 Donate to help us organize more workshops, print materials, and invite experts
- 🧠 Volunteer as a trainer or speaker if you understand finance or digital payments
- 📍 Host a session in your area—we’ll manage everything, including training and supplies
- 🗣️ Spread the word—many women just need someone to tell them they’re capable
You don’t need to change the world.
Just help one woman understand her worth—and her wallet.
We’ll take care of the rest.
